Liveries
For the safety of the horses already resident at Goodmerry, we check any new arrival’s heart, temperature, and respiration (for signs of infection) and send a sample of dung for worm-egg lab testing. If all is well, we establish the new arrival with, at least one compatible grazing companion, and, according to each owner’s wishes, can turn in and out, and feed, according to weather and individual needs. If the owners wish, their horses can live out the majority of the time. If a horse is unwell, we isolate it and arrange for immediate veterinary care.

Nursing
I’m well practised at dealing with minor injuries; cuts, grazes, punctures, abcesses, strains etc. I feel confident in knowing when a vet must be called or when home nursing or good farriery will solve the problem. I also have plenty of experience of laminitics, COPD cases and other common ailments.

Putting a Horse to Sleep
The debate continues as to whether the veterinary injection or bullet is the more humane way to end a horse’s suffering. Whichever method an owner chooses, I guarantee to be with the horse at the time and that the person called ( if the owner chooses not to have a vet), will be an expert, used to dealing with horses, as opposed to cattle. Except in the most extreme emergency, I would ensure that the owner would be able to have lengthy conversations with our vet and a second opinion vet before making any decision. The price is £100.00, Vet’s injection price is £150.00 (approximately).
